Hi everyone, today I wanted to do something different on the blog. From the title you can probably gather that it is going to be a recipe post. I thought it would be fun and refreshing to do something that just can stand on its own and isn’t written for a continues style. I’ll be giving you my secret recipe for the best American-style Pancakes, no seriously it’s the best, it’s yummy fluffy light deliciousness. Every time i make this people ask me ‘How do you make this? What do you do differently? Can i have your recipe?’. If you’re wondering, yes I’m very confident in my pancake skills sorry about it.
Now onto the recipe. The first thing I like to do is prepare my ingredients, lay them all out neatly on the kitchens counter so I see exactly what i’m working with and won’t forget any of the ingredients. This step is not mandatory it’s just how I prefer to get started. For the ingredients:
- 200 grams all purpose flour or any type of flour you prefer, I like to use multigrain pancake flour.
- 1 ½ tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder (not soda)
- 1 sachet vanilla sugar or a teaspoon vanilla extract (whichever you prefer, i prefer sugar because it is more subtle)
- ½ teaspoon kosher table salt
- 300 ml milk (whichever you prefer, i like using almond milk or normal low fat milk)
- 1 medium to large size egg
- 3 tablespoons butter (plus extra for the pan)
Make the batter as followed:
Grab a medium sized bowl and whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, vanilla sugar and salt together.
Then take your butter and get that melted, during this process you can take your milk and warm it up until lukewarm. This is my secret to amazing pancakes, by warming the milk you avoid getting lumps in your batter. Grab yourself another bowl and whisk your egg and gradually add in your melted butter and warm milk. Once you`ve got that mixed together take your flour mixture and make sure the flour is empty-ish in the middle and fuller towards the bowl kinda like a hole. Slowly whisk the milk mixture with the flour mixture until lump free, but don’t over whisk because you’ll lose the fluffy-ness. Now that the batter is done, heat a pan/skillet on medium heat and with some butter. Cooking the pancakes will take about 2 minutes on each side, at least on my stove.
What do you like on your pancakes? I usually go for strawberries and or blackberries and some powdered/icing sugar. But it is also yummy with chocolate chips mixed in the batter or some light maple syrup. But of course it is up to you do decide what you put on your fluffy pancakes alla Rach.
Let me know if you liked this new category and if you are gonna try the recipe. Much love…
